The LAPD is currently investigating the scene in which the body of a man with a bag over his head was found by an employee of the magic-themed club.
The body of a man was found in a closet at the Magic Castle in Hollywood Friday night.
The man was discovered with a bag over his head, dressed only in his underwear, by an employee of the Castle, according to reports by TMZ. The death is being investigated by the LAPD as a possible suicide. "Deputies are on the scene investigating at this time," LAPD officer Aareon Jefferson told The Hollywood Reporter.
In 2015, the Magic Castle's founder, Milt Larsen, and his niece, Erika Larsen, the current president of the Academy of Magical Arts that runs the storied membership club, were embroiled in a legal battle over the 5.5 percent royalty from annual food and beverage sales at the club and in 2016 a class-action lawsuit was filed that alleged the management of the club had not paid at least one hundred hospitality workers’ wages in full.
The Magic Castle is famous as a haven for magicians from around the world, offering intimate magic shows for members and guests of the Castle.
A request for comment from the Magic Castle was not immediately returned.
